On July 20, 2023, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) held two separate invitation draws within the Human Capital Priorities Stream. In the first draw, known as the tech draw, the OINP granted 902 targeted Notifications of Interest (NOIs) to applicants possessing work experience in specific high-demand occupations. The second draw, focused on the healthcare sector, resulted in the issuance of 159 targeted NOIs. Invited candidates in both draws had CRS Express Entry scores ranging from 458 to 462 points. Overall, the OINP extended invitations to 1,061 candidates through these two Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream draws. Throughout the year 2023, Ontario awarded a total of 22,007 invitations across all streams of the OINP.
What is Provincial Nominee Program?
The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is a Canadian immigration initiative that empowers provinces and territories to nominate individuals interested in settling within a specific province for immigration to Canada. Quebec has authority over its selection criteria for economic immigration.
The primary goal of the PNP is to distribute the benefits of immigration more evenly across Canada. Every PNP includes at least one immigration stream that aligns with the federal Express Entry immigration selection system. These nominations issued through Express Entry-aligned streams are referred to as ‘enhanced nominations.’
Why Provincial Nominee Programs?
Enhanced PNP streams offer Express Entry candidates an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points, significantly increasing their chances of receiving an invitation for permanent residence through Express Entry. Alternatively, individuals can obtain permanent residence through a ‘base’ stream, wherein they apply directly to a PNP stream. Upon obtaining a provincial nomination, the federal government processes their permanent residence application.
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) serves as the economic immigration program for the province of Ontario, Canada. It operates in collaboration with the Government of Canada, specifically through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
