What is Alberta Advantage Immigration Program?
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) is a collaborative effort between the governments of Alberta and Canada, designed to nominate individuals for permanent residence in Alberta. Aimed at addressing skill shortages and fostering economic growth, the program requires nominees to possess skills in demand or intend to establish or purchase a business in Alberta, while also demonstrating the ability to support their families. The application process is managed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, with final decisions made by the federal government.
The AAIP offers three streams for foreign workers: the Alberta Opportunity Stream for those with job offers, the Alberta Express Entry Stream for candidates aligned with federal Express Entry pool requirements, and the Rural Renewal Stream, allowing designated communities to recruit qualified individuals. For entrepreneurs, the program includes four streams: Rural Entrepreneur, Graduate Entrepreneur, Farm Stream, and Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur. These cater to individuals seeking to start or acquire businesses in Alberta.
Factors influencing application processing include the quality and completeness of applications, the volume received, application submission date, strategic priorities aligned with labor market and economic development needs, and the available number of nomination certificates for the year. Information on processing times and volumes is provided to assist applicants in gauging the duration of the AAIP application process for each stream or pathway.
