On September 26, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 3,000 Invitations to Apply (ITA) to candidates in Express Entry draw #265. This draw included candidates from all immigration programs. In the most recent invitation round, the minimum required Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score was 504 points, which was 27 points lower than the previous all-program draw. For tie-breaking purposes, the relevant date in this draw was September 11, 2023, at 20:24:18 UTC. As of September 26, 2023, there were 214,000 profiles registered in the Express Entry pool. In 2023, Canada issued a total of 84,948 ITAs through the Express Entry draws.
In September, there were three draws, including one on September 19th, which was an all-program draw, issuing 3,200 ITAs with a minimum CRS score of 531 points. Additionally, there was a draw on September 20th, targeting transport occupations with a minimum CRS score of 435 points, and another all-program draw on September 26th, which lowered the CRS score to 504 points, resulting in 3,000 ITAs.
As a matter of fact, these draws reflect Canada’s adaptive approach to immigration. They address specific labour market needs while maintaining an overall commitment to inviting a diverse group of candidates to apply for permanent residency.
What is Express Entry?
The Express Entry system is employed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) as an efficient method to manage permanent residency applications. This system assesses applicants using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, which considers various factors such as employment history, occupation, language proficiency, educational background, age, and more. In essence, individuals with higher CRS scores have an increased probability of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency.
Furthermore, a novel approach within the Express Entry system, known as category-based selection draws, targets candidates with specific professional backgrounds or other desirable characteristics. There are six distinct categories under which potential candidates may qualify:
- Healthcare
- Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
- Trades, including carpenters, plumbers, and contractors
- Transport
- Agriculture and agri-food
- Proficiency in the French language
