IRCC Issues 2000 ITAs
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 2000 Invitations to Apply (ITA) to prospective candidates through the Express Entry system on August 01, 2023. There were candidates from all immigration programs in this particular draw. The minimum score requirement for this 259th round was 517 points, which is an increase of 12 points from the last all-program draw. Also, the tie-breaking rule for this round was June 30, 2023 at 11:45:05 UTC.
What is Express Entry?
Express Entry serves as an application management system that oversees the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program.
Applicants in the Express Entry pool undergo evaluation based on various human capital factors, including work experience, occupation, language proficiency, education, and age. Afterwards, their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score is assigned, and they are ranked alongside other candidates in the pool. Finally, the individuals with the highest scores are more likely to receive invitations to apply.
As of May 31, the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada) has introduced new category-based selection criteria. As a matter of fact, these criteria focus on specific attributes rather than solely relying on a high CRS score. The six new categories for Express Entry candidates are:
- Healthcare
- Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
- Trades, such as carpenters, plumbers, and contractors
- Transport
- Agriculture and agri-food
- Strong French-language proficiency
These categories have been chosen to address immediate gaps in Canada’s labor force and also to promote the use of the French language outside of Quebec.
