On September 19, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) granted 3,200 Invitations to Apply (ITA) to candidates during the Express Entry draw #263. In this particular draw, IRCC extended invitations to candidates from all immigration programs. The minimum qualifying score in this latest round of invitations was 531 points, which was 35 points higher than the previous all-program draw. The tie-breaking rule applied for this draw was based on candidate profiles submitted before September 12, 2023, at 12:16:31 UTC. As of September 19, 2023, the Express Entry pool contained 216,035 registered profiles. In the year 2023, Canada issued a total of 80,948 ITAs through the Express Entry draws.

What is Canadian Express Entry?

The Express Entry system is utilized by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to effectively manage applications for permanent residency. This system evaluates applicants based on their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, which takes into consideration several factors such as work history, occupation, language proficiency, education, age, and more. Essentially, individuals with higher CRS scores have a greater likelihood of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency.

Additionally, a new approach to Express Entry draws – category-based selection draws – targets candidates with specific occupational backgrounds or other desirable attributes. There are six distinct categories under which candidates may potentially qualify:

Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
Trades, including carpenters, plumbers, and contractors
Transport
Agriculture and agri-food
Proficiency in the French language
