The Super Visa allows grandparents and parents of Canadian residents and citizens to have multiple entries to the country over ten years. So, they can come for up to two years without renewing their status.
The Parents and Grandparents program has a very high demand and not much space. Then, the Super Visa Canada is an alternative to the program for those who temporarily want to reunite with their loved ones.
Super Visa holders don’t need to renovate their visitor visas constantly. Then, this is a very popular visa among citizens of countries requiring a Temporary Resident Visa to enter Canada.
Eligibility
Parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents qualify to apply for the Super Visa. They cannot be inadmissible to Canada for any health condition or criminality. But, they may need to meet other requirements.
The visa is only for parents or grandparents of Canadians. However, they can include their spouses or common-law partners in the application. But not their dependents.
How to Apply for a Super Visa?
Applicants have to do it from outside Canada. Firstly, the Super Visa process is similar to the regular TRV process. However, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) needs to verify that grandparents are parents will be supported during their visit to Canada.
To prove it, applicants need to include a signed letter from their Canadian family member to promise financial support during the visit. Also, they need medical insurance of a minimum of CAD 100,000 from a Canadian insurance company.
On the other hand, the family member in Canada needs to prove their citizenship or permanent residency status with valid documentation and include a list of the people in their household.
Keep in mind that the medical insurance must be valid for at least 12 months from entry to Canada.
Immigration officers will verify the applicant’s ties to their home country. It includes the purpose of the visit, family and personal finances. Candidates must demonstrate that they will leave the country at the end of their authorized stay.
Immigration for Grandparents and Parents
The Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) allows Canadians to bring and sponsor their loved ones for immigration.
This year, 30,000 PGP applicants will be chosen by a lottery. The process will take place during the week of September 20. In the end, IRCC will invite candidates to apply for the PGP over two weeks.
The candidates who will be invited must have previously submitted an Interest to Sponsor form between October 13 and November 3, 2020.
Finally, the date for the next intake is uncertain but is probably going to be in 2022.
