Canada’s immigration minister, Marco Mendicino, just announced new programs for permanent residence. There are six streams to allow 90,000 essential workers and international graduates to get their permanent status this year.
The new pathways have different targets. Some focus on temporary workers. Who work at hospitals, care homes or other frontlines of essential sectors. At the same time, others include international students who graduated within the last four years.
To be eligible, international students must have finished their Canadian post-secondary program no earlier than January 2017. On the other hand, essential workers must have at least one year of working experience in healthcare or another essential occupation.
New Programs For Permanent Residence
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship (IRCC) will accept applications from May 6 based on the following streams:
20,000 applications for temporary workers in health care.
30,000 applications for temporary workers in other selected essential occupations.
40,000 applications for international students who graduated from a Canadian institution.
These streams will remain open until November 5, 2021. Or until they have reached their limit. It is expected that more than 90,000 foreigners will get their permanent residence this year.
Also, there are other three streams for French-speaking or bilingual candidates. Those aims to promote Canada’s official languages and contribute to the Francophone minority communities across the country.
In fact, immigration is critical to recovering the Canadian economy. It helps to grow the workforce. So, these programs support essential temporary workers and international students in establishing themselves in Canada.
The Canadian Government plan for 2021 is to welcome 401.000 new permanent residents. Both international students and skilled workers are included to strengthen the economy.
