Healthcare Professionals: New Express Entry Draw

On the 26th of October, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted a fresh Express Entry draw that was specific to occupations in the healthcare sector. They granted 3,600 Invitations to Apply (ITA) to individuals working in healthcare occupations. In this particular draw, known as round #271, the minimum score required to receive an ITA was 431 points, which was 32 points lower than the previous Express Entry draw that targeted healthcare professionals. The tie-breaking rule applied for this round was based on applications submitted on May 24, 2023, at 19:47:51 UTC. As of October 23, 2023, there were 214,873 profiles registered in the Express Entry pool. In the current year, Canada has issued a total of 95,221 ITAs through 35 Express Entry draws.

Express Entry System

The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) employ the Express Entry system as an efficient tool for processing applications for permanent residency. Applicants are assessed using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, which considers various factors such as work experience, occupation, language proficiency, educational history, age, and more. Generally, individuals with higher CRS scores have a better chance of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency.

Moreover, the Express Entry system has introduced a novel feature known as category-based selection draws. These draws target candidates with specific professional backgrounds or other highly sought-after qualifications. There are six distinct categories for which potential applicants may be eligible:

• Healthcare
• Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
• Trades, including carpenters, plumbers, and contractors
• Transport
• Agriculture and agri-food
• Proficiency in the French language
