As of July 16, 2023, Ukrainian citizens are no longer eligible to apply for the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) visa. Instead, they have the option to apply for a regular temporary resident visa to travel to Canada. After arriving in Canada, Ukrainian applicants can then apply for an open work permit, study permit, or visitor record, all of which will be valid for up to 3 years.
For these permits or extensions, Ukrainian nationals must use the regular Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) channels and follow the standard application procedures with appropriate fees. The normal period of stay allowed for these permits is up to six months. It’s important to note that all applicants must meet the eligibility and admissibility requirements and go through the standard processing channels as part of the application process.
How Can Ukrainians Apply for Temporary Resident Visas?
Ukrainian nationals and their foreign national family members who do not have a travel document or status document under CUAET can apply for a regular Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) to travel to Canada. However, they must adhere to the standard requirements for such applications. Applicants in this category will be subject to regular fees and processing times, just like any other TRV applicant. Moreover, they must fulfill all the relevant eligibility and admissibility criteria set forth by the Canadian immigration authorities.
Additionally, these clients will be required to undergo the process of enrolling biometrics as part of their application procedure. In some cases, they may also be asked to undergo an Immigration Medical Exam (IME), if deemed necessary based on the specific circumstances of their application
