Canada’s immigration minister, Marco Mendicino, just announced new programs for permanent residence. There are six streams to allow 90,000 essential workers and international graduates to get their permanent status this year. The new pathways have different targets. Some focus on temporary workers. Who work at hospitals, care homes or other frontlines of essential sectors. At the same time, others include international students who graduated within the last four years. To be eligible, international students must have finished their Canadian post-secondary program no earlier than January 2017. On the other hand, essential workers must have at least one year of working experience in healthcare or another essential occupation.
